At approximately 7:00 am on Thursday, 14 January 2016, Israeli gunboats opened fire at Palestinian fishing boats which were west of Al Sudaniya area northwest of North Gaza district. The Israeli forces surrounded Palestinian boat carrying two fishermen on its board. The Israeli soldiers ordered the fishermen to take off their clothes and to swim towards the Israeli boat. The Israeli forces then arrested Mohammed Ibrahim Na’em An-Najjar, 32, and Hussam Mo’ein Abu Ryala, 19. They were then taken to Ashdod port and their boat and 20 fishing nets were confiscated. The owner of the boat is the fisherman Zaki Ibrahim Na’em Abu Ryala, 39. IOF released the fishermen at 8:00pm on the same day at Erez crossing and the boat and the nets are still in custody.
