Hamas Armed Men Kill Fatah Leader Jamal Abu Al Jidyan and His Brother and Assault Jamal’s House and Fayez Abu ‘Itta and Khader Oda’s houses

At approximately 4:40 pm on Monday, 11 June 2007, Hamas armed men attacked the house of Fatah Secretary General in North Gaza District, Jamal Abu Al Jidyan. The house is located near Kamal Odwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya.  At approximately 5:00 pm on the same day, the situation developed as tens of Hamas armed men surrounded the Abu Al Jidyan house and clashes started between them and those who were in the house (his relatives and guards).

 

More than 20 rockets were launched at the Abu Al Jidyan house and the adjacent house. People were panic particularly children, women and high school students. Movement between the attacked houses and the nearby hospital was obstructed. Ambulances were prevented from entering the place of the attack to recover the injured people. The clashes continued until 10:20 pm on the same day when Hamas armed men broke into the house of Abu Al Jidyan as well as a number of adjacent houses. Hamas armed men withdrew at 11:15 pm on the same day. As a result, Mohammed Ibrahim Mihjiz, 24, from the Hamas Executive Force, Jamal Abed Rabbo Abu Al Jidyan, 50, Fatah Leader, his brothers Majed and Ziyad (37 and 35 respectively) were killed. About 36 people were injured in the attack, including a child. Medical sources described the injury of three of them as critical.

 

Four houses belonging to the Abu Al Jidyan, Oda, and Abu ‘Itta families were burnt in the attack. Three civil defense members were injured while they were trying to put out fire. Medical sources at Kamal Odwan Hospital described their injury as moderate. A house adjacent to the Abu Al Jiduyan house was damaged. A car was partially damaged and a business store was totally damaged.

 

Hamas armed men kidnapped 25 people who were in the attacked houses and took them to unknown destination. A number of them were admitted to Al Awda and Kamal Odwan hospitals after being injured in their legs.

 

It’s worth mentioning that the armed men did not leave the place of the attack after breaking into the house of the Abu Al Jidyan. They broke into the houses of Khader Oda, and Faiyz Abo ‘Itta, the Mayor of Beit Lahiya and Fatah leader. Furniture of the houses were totally burnt.

At approximately 10:20 pm on the same day, the armed men surrounded the house of Mohammed Attiya Abu Al Jidyan, broke it and then burnt it.
