16-year-old Mahmoud Ismail Mohamed Al Astal was a calm and organized boy who helped his mother around the house. He loved animals and hoped to go to university to continue studying.
On 24 July 2014, the family was sleeping under the awning of their house when it was struck by a missile from an Israeli drone. Mahmoud was killed along with his father, 45; his brother Ahmed, 20; and his cousins Mohammed Saleh Al Astal, 19, and Mohammed Hasan Al Astal, 42. “I still can’t go into Mahmoud’s room where all of his stuff is,” his mother says.
