Name: Fadi Sami Salem Barakah
Date of birth: 7 January 2000
Date of death: 27 July 2014
14-year-old Fadi Sami Salem Barakah from Khan Younis was his father’s first child. His father had been trying to have a child for eleven years before Fadi was born. Fadi was therefore thoroughly spoiled by his father. “Unlike many boys his age, he was a calm and quiet boy and always respectful to others,” said his father. He liked dancing Dabkeh, the traditional Palestinian folk dance, and playing football.
On 27 July 2014, during the Eid festival that follows the month of Ramadan, Fadi went to pray at the Khalil Al Rahman Mosque in Khan Younis with his father and uncle. While they were there, the mosque was targeted by an Israeli drone. All three were injured, Fadi seriously. Fadi was referred to Egypt for medical treatment because of the severity of his injuries; but he died a few days later on 11 August 2014.
