At approximately 6:40 am on Sunday 11 May 2014, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) opened fire at rubble and scrap collectors who approached the borders west of Erez crossing.
As a result, Nezar Abdallah Olwan, 23, sustained a bullet wound in his left leg.
Medical sources at Kamal Odwan hospital described his injury as minor.
According to Al Mezan’s filed investigations, Olwan was injured while he was few meters away from the separation fence.
It’s worth mentioning that rubble and scrap collectors move closer to the separation fence in order to collect greater amount of rubble to be recycled and sold again.
This is the main source of income for rubble collectors due to severe economic situation.
