Ministry of Interior Bars Palestinian Journalist from Travel via Erez Crossing

On Sunday, 17 March 2013, the Ministry of Interior in Gaza verbally barred Majed Ismail Abu Salama, 24, from travel through Erez Crossing.
Abu Salama, who is a journalist and a resident of As-Saftawi area, in the North Gaza district, was intending to go to Ramallah to attend “Youth Award Conference for T.
Children Films”.
In his affidavit, Abu Salama stated that on Thursday, 14 March 2013, he, Sami Al Haw, Omayma Masoud and Yousif Nateel headed to the Civil Affairs Department at the Ministry of Interior to ask for a permit to travel via Erez Crossing to attend the conference.
On Sunday, 17 March 2013, he was informed by the officers at the Civil Affairs Department that his permit was rejected whereas the three others’ permits were approved.
Abu Salama added that he was asked if he had any “issues” with the Ministry of Interior to be denied a travel permit, which he flatly denied.
The officer did not provide any further reasons regarding the permit rejection.
