At approximately 10:00 am on Thursday 17 May 2012, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) opened fire with small arms and a number of artillery shells at a group of Palestinian farmers who were in their fields near the Ash-Sheja’iya neighborhood of Gaza City.
As a result, eight farmers were injured, including a woman.
The farmers were about 500 meters away from the separation fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel when the IOF opened fire at them.
Al Mezan has identified them as follows:
· Farha Shehda ‘Ayyad, 73, sustained shrapnel wounds in the right leg;
· Ali Mohammed ‘Abed, 60, sustained shrapnel wounds in the left leg;
· Mohammed Mahmoud Helles, 20, sustained shrapnel wounds in different parts of the body;
· Abdel Raheem Mousa Al ‘Ar’eer, 52, sustained shrapnel wounds in different parts of the body;
· Nedal Waleed Al ‘Ar’eer, 20, sustained shrapnel wounds in the left leg;
· S’adi Muhessein, 50, sustained shrapnel wounds in the legs;
· Mahmoud Sa’eed Jendiya, 73, sustained shrapnel wounds in the back; and
· Nafez Mahmoud Jendiya, 58, sustained a wound to the right eye.
