At approximately 11:18 am on Tuesday 1 November 2011, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) opened heavy fire on protestors at the weekly demonstration against the so-called “access restricted area” (also called the “security buffer zone”) near the border fence in the north of the Gaza Strip.
The demonstration was organized by the “Local Initiative” group in Beit Hanoun.
According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, at approximately 11:00 am on Tuesday 1 November 2011, a group of 55 Palestinians, five internationals, and several journalists marched towards the northern border.
Demonstrators were about 300 meters from the border fence when the IOF began firing at them.
  The demonstrators left the area.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
