Short Link:
At approximately 10:00 am on Sunday 9 October 2011, the Internal Security Apparatus banned, by a phone call, a commemoration ceremony for Mrs.
Um Sabri Sedam, the former secretariat of the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees.
The commemoration was supposed to be held at 12:00 pm on Monday 10 October 2011 at the Rashad Ash-Shawa Cultural Center, in the west of Gaza City.
In her affidavit to Al Mezan, Mrs.
Amal Hamad, a member of the general secretariat of the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees, stated that the Union sent a letter to the Rashad Ash-Shawa Cultural Center asking for permission to organize the commemoration in the Center’s public hall.
The administration of the Center stipulated that the event was dependent on permission from the Internal Security Apparatus.
On 2 October 2011, the Union sent a letter to the Apparatus office.
On 9 October 2011, Apparatus agents informed Mr.
Osama Al Haj Ahmad, one of the mediators between the Apparatus and the Union and a member of the Central Committee of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, of the Apparatus’s decision to ban the event, with no reason stated.
