At approximately 10:00 pm on Thursday 22 September 2011, S. G., 61, was injured in the abdomen. Medical sources at Kamal Odwan Hospital described his injury as critical. He was admitted to the surgery department and then to the intensive care unit. At approximately 10:00 pm on the same day he was pronounced dead. According to Al Mezan’s field investigation, S. G. and his family were collecting iron for sale to factories. S.G. was attempting to cut a metal pole with a copper cap when he was injured. According to the initial police investigation, S.G. found an unidentified device in the eastern area of Jabaliya, in the east of As-Salam neighborhood. He was attempting to break it when it exploded.
