on Wednesday 13 July 2011, Israeli naval vessels patrolling the Gaza Sea opened heavy fire on and used water cannons against Palestinian fishing boats and an international solidarity boat off the coast of Gaza City.
The boats were sailing in an area that was more than three nautical miles west of the limited fishing area when the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) opened fire on them.
The international solidarity activists’ boat was sailing with Palestinian fishermen to enable them to reach areas full of fish.
As a result, the fishing net of Mahmoud Al Habiel was damaged.
The shooting lasted until 12:00 noon and frightened the fishermen, who sailed to land immediately
