At approximately 9:45pm on Monday 18 October 2010, armed men who were in jeep kidnapped Sobhi Hilmi Hamdiya, 31, while he was on his way to his house.
According to Al Mezan's field investigations, Hamdiya lives in the Az-Zaytoun neighborhood east of Gaza city.
He is a first lieutenant and is in charge of patrols unit at the Al Shija'iya police station, east of Gaza city.
Hamdiya finished his duty and was on his way home when the persons shot him in the legs and kidnapped him.
Half an hour later, the kidnapers left Hamdiya near the Al Shifa Tower, west of Gaza city.
An ambulance carried him to the nearby Shifa Hospital.
The identity and motivation of the perpetrators have remained unknown.
