Short Link:
On Saturday, 14/6/2008, at approximately 8:10pm, police attacked a vigil to honor Iyad Ashor, a Fatah activist killed during last year's clashes between Hamas and Fatah.
Gathered in front of Iyad Ashor's home in the city of Rafah, forty children held candles along with a group of women and Fatah activists.
His house is located on Tareq Ibn Zyad Street in Tal Al Sultan neighborhood.
Some of the participants who were attacked reported that gunmen wearing civilian clothes interrupted the speech of the Secretary of Fatah movement in Abu Jihad district and fired in the air.
They ordered participants to disperse within five minutes and told them that anyone who wants to commemorate Ashor should go to his grave.
Within minutes, a number of four-wheel-vehicles came to the area and officers assaulted participants and chased them in the streets.
Three of those injured in the attack were transferred to Abu Yousef An Najar Hospital for treatment.
One among them has an artificial leg.
