Muhammad Jihad Risq Saleh, 19, was injured at around 3:30am on Sunday, 5 October 2008 with a fire shot in the left foot. He sustains serious injuries, medical sources at the European Gaza Hospital said. He was shot by Israeli gunboats while he was onboard a small motor-less boat in Rafah to the north of the fishing port, 1.5km away from the Egyptian borderline, i.e. within the fishing zone allowed for Palestinians according to Oslo Accords. Ahmad Omar al-Bardaweil, 19, was also onboard and managed to take him to the shore.
