10am Monday 15 December 2008, Israeli naval vessels opened fire at a Palestinian fishing boat at Beit Lahia coast, northern the Gaza Strip.
The two fishermen aboard the boat were ordered to abandon their boat and swim towards the north-Gaza border where they were arrested.
The boat was also detained.
Al Mezan knew that the two fishermen were Wa'il and Jihad Abu Riyaleh; both residents of the Al Shati (Beah) refugee camp in Gaza.
The arrest comes in the context of IOF's enforcing of a de fact ban of fishing within a zone that extends for one nautical mile south to the border in north Gaza.
The ban has been enforced by using extremely violent means.
