30 June 2005
Short Link:
In May 2005, the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights entered its sixth year of action on the enhancement and protection of human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT).
On June 30th 2005, Al Mezan finalized the implementation of its planned activities for the first half of this year.
During the reporting period Al Mezan witnessed many changes and developments in the human rights situation in the OPT.
In particular, Israeli violations against Palestinian human rights declined in comparison to previous years, while the internal security situation within the OPT has deteriorated to an unprecedented extent.
The Al Mezan Center has continued its efforts to provide aid to victims of human rights violations.
During the period covered by this report the center received many complaints and cases, particularly from people living in areas adjacent to Israeli settlements and the families of political prisoners.
The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) escalated their collective punishment policy of imposing bans on people's right to free movement.
Al Mezan cooperated with local and Israeli human rights organizations to provide assistance to victims of human rights violations, especially sick individuals who were denied access to hospitals outside the Gaza Strip.
