At approximately 10:30 am on Sunday, 29 November 2015, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, in cooperation with Hafsa primary school, opened an educational meeting entitled, ‘Convention on the Rights of the Child and Palestinian Child Law’ for 31 female teachers at the school in Jabalia refugee camp, in the North Gaza district.
Mrs. Niveen Al-Masri, the school’s instructor opened the meeting by welcoming Ala’a Al Skafi, Al Mezan’s lawyer from the Jabalia office. Mrs. Al-Masri thanked Al Mezan for our efforts in promoting the culture of human rights.
Mr. Alskafi gave an overview about Al Mezan, its activities, units and services. Then he addressed the main principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the overlapping principles between CRC on one side and on another side, the Palestinian Child Law number 7 of 2004 and Palestinian legislation.
The meeting focused on the four core principles of the CRC: non-discrimination; devotion to the best interests of the child; the right to life, survival and development; and respect for the views of the child.
This meeting is part of a series of activities organized by Al Mezan to promote the human rights culture particularly the rights of the child.
