On Monday, 27 October 2008, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights concluded a training course entitled 'Protection of Civilians under Human Rights Law and IHL' organized in collaboration with Shark Youth Forum.
It was a four-day course was held at the Forum's headquarters in Gaza City.
Twenty-two participants took part in the training, which aimed to provide them with the basic concepts of human rights and International Humanitarian Law (IHL), and the notion and mechanisms of protection they offer.
The training program included an introduction to the theories of human rights and IHL as well as the major concepts relevant to the promotion and protection of human rights.
It also included an introduction to a number of international instruments, including those related to child right and woman right, as well as concepts of human rights and protection mechanisms.
The last two days of the course were dedicated to concepts and principles of IHL, especially with regard to the protection it accords to children and women.
This part of the training falls under a project aimed at promoting IHL in Gaza with support from Diakonia.
In addition, Al Mezan Center has opened two training courses on human rights and the IHL today in collaboration with UNRWA's human rights and conflict resolution program.
The training targets 50 teachers who will be involved in teaching human rights in the UNRWA schools in Rafah.
The three-day courses will be held in Rafah Prep School 'B'.
