On Monday 31 October 2011, the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights held a workshop on “Child Rights and Protection Mechanisms.
” The workshop aimed to raise awareness within Palestinian society of human rights and their protection mechanisms.
It was held in the library of Belal Ibn Rabah elementary school, located in Wadi As-Salqa village, southeast of Deir Al Balah.
25 students attended the workshop.
Basem Abu Jari, Al Mezan’s fieldworker in the Middle Gaza district, opened the workshop by welcoming the students and thanking the school administration for its cooperation.
He then began his discussion of child rights and the protective mechanisms for children.
The workshop, which lasted for two hours, elicited an enthusiastic response from the children.
At the end, the school administration thanked Al Mezan for organizing such awareness sessions on a relevant topic such as child rights and protection.
The students also showed an interest in learning more about child rights and protection mechanisms.
This workshop is part of a project titled “Promotion of 1612 MRM [Monitoring and Reporting Mechanisms]” funded by Save the Children - UK.
