Yesterday Sunday 22/10/2201 afternoon, Alaad – Din Hasan Muhammad Whaba died in detention.
Wahba, 41 years old from Khan Ynis Refugee Camp and a janitor at an UNRWA school was detained by the Palestinian General Intelligence.
According to his brother Ghasan, a general practitioner at al – Qarara government clinic, who testified to al Mezan, Alaad-Din was detained by intelligence officers at about 19:00 Thursday 18/10/2001.
Ghassan and his uncle Muhammad Fawzi Hasan Halalu went to the intelligence office in Khan Yunis, located near the College of Science and Technology, at about 11:00 Friday 19/10/2001 and asked the officer in charge about Alaad-Din.
However, the officer denied that Alaad0Din was there and refused to identify himself.
Alaad-Din’s family continued their search, says Ghasan, as all the evidence point that he was detained by the intelligence.
At about 10:00 Saturday 20/10/2001 morning, Ghasan and his uncle went to the same office again and asked about him; the officer in charge confirmed that Alaad-Din was detained.
The next day 21/10/2001 at 10:00, Alaad-Din’s uncle and Mukhtar Abu Jihad ash-shamali went to the intelligence office and asked to visit him, but their request was denied.
At about 15:00 the same day, Ghasan received a phone call from his uncle telling him that Alaad-Din was dead and his body was at Nasir Hospital in Khan Ynis.
They went to the hospital and attended the medical investigation.
Ghasan says that he noticed a bruise in the right side of his forehead, a deep rope trace around the neck, swelling in the right side of the neck and that his lips and hands were blue.
At about 08:40 Monday morning, the center’s field worker went to the hospital and asked to see Alaad –Din’s body, but the hospital administration told him that the body is reserved and he needs a notice from the attorney general in order to see it.
The General Intelligence office announced that Alaad-Din was detained for security reasons and that he committed suicide in his cell.
After the announcement, Al-Mezan Center sent the attorney general a notice asking him to open an investigation in the death of Alaad-Din Wahba in accordance with his authority based on the order No.
554/1957 and to reveal the relative conditions.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights calls for the following:
An investigation in the conditions and causes of the death of Alaad-Din Wahba by the attorney general, especially since he died in detention, and revealing the real causes of his death.
Putting a stop to all the arrests out of the due process and to the arrests executed by unlicensed parties, and to respect individual rights and freedoms, and to effectively apply the role of law.
