As IOF continues to employ a number of unlawful tactics against Gazans, one Palestinian is dead, and others are left stranded as Israel divides the Strip into three parts and bans travel.
On July 17th 2005, at approximately 9:35 am, an Israeli soldier stationed in a military watchtower inside the Israeli settlement of Jani Tal (south Gaza Strip), shot dead a Palestinian civilian.
The man, aged 30, was standing in front of his house at the time.
At approximately 12:35 am, Israeli helicopters fired two missiles in the eastern part of Sheikh Zayed Residential City, in Beit Lahia (north Gaza Strip).
No causalities were reported.
Since Thursday, July 14th 2005, the IOF has kept Salah Ad-Din and the Beach Road closed.
This has left thousands of people, including the elderly and sick stranded, and unable to travel to their homes, work and hospitals.
On July 16th 2005, IOF implemented a ban preventing all Palestinians between the ages of 16 and 35 from traveling.
This has confined hundreds to the Gaza Strip, including students who came to spend their holidays with their families.
Israel’s travel ban has prevented many students from traveling abroad in order to pursue their studies.
The Al Mezan Center for Human Rights strongly condemns all tactics being used by Israelis against the Palestinian people in the OPT.
The Center emphasizes that these acts violate Palestinians right to movement and their right to education.
Al Mezan calls upon the international community to intervene and put an end to Israeli practices that violate Palestinians legal rights under international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.
