Short Link:
In the last two days, electricity cuts have worsened.
Before, electricity cuts lasted less than eight hours during 24 hours.
Now, the electricity cut hours last 12.
In the five Gaza districts, electricity is connected for six hours to each area then it is cut for 12 hours.
The electricity power plant announced that it would stop working because it has run out of stored fuel and that the Ramallah Government has stopped sending appropriate amounts of fuel.
The Ramallah Government says that the suspension is related to the value of the financial revenues of the electricity service transferred to the Ramallah Government.
According to a press statement issued by the Gaza Electricity Company, the shortage in the electricity supply increased to 60%.
The real load of electricity to the Gaza districts reached 300 watt while the available is only 137 watt as the electricity plant stopped.
The remaining amount will be distributed to the Gaza Strip in an emergency schedule.
The deterioration in the electricity supply comes as high school students have exams and during severe hot weather.
The electricity cuts also gravely affect the service of providing houses with drinking water.
Municipalities pump water to homes at specific times and hours.
They usually can't provide houses with water when the electricity is off in these areas.
As a result, water does not reach houses for hours and sometimes for days in some areas.
This causes a serious source of suffering for the Palestinian people.
It also has negative impacts on the public sanitation and environment.
In addition, the rates of environmental pollution have increased as people use generators which produce smoke and noise.
The noise has its impact on students at high schools.
Electricity cuts cause suffering for the children and elderly people.
It also causes huge financial losses for the citizens who are forced to buy generators and use them daily for long hours.
Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights expresses its regret at the continuous dispute between the Ramallah and Gaza Governments.
Al Mezan condemns involving basic service sectors in the internal disagreement.
The deterioration in this sector causes great suffering for the civilians.
Al Mezan urges the two governments to put the Palestinian interests at the top of their priorities and to keep the basic services out of the current political disagreement.
Al Mezan reiterates its call on the both sides to work towards ending the Palestinian internal split as soon as possible because the ongoing internal split contributes to the deterioration of the human rights situation in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
The continuous internal division weakens the Palestinian struggle to achieve their rights to freedom, self-determination, and creating a state.
