Al Mezan Center for Human Rights founded the first library in north Gaza Strip. The Center's library is specialized in the field of Law and Human Rights and contains a variable number of sources and informative materials in both English and Arabic ordered according to Dewey decimal classification

The library was established in 2002 and opened for public use in early 2004. It is located in the main office of Al Mezan Center for Human Rights in Jabalia Camp – opposite to the police station- 2nd floor.

Objectives:

The Library aims at raising awareness of law and Human Rights in north Gaza Strip where 1.4 million Palestinians live. It is designed to serve different groups of local community such as school pupils, university students, researchers, and those who are interested. The library aims also at enriching the scientific research in Human Rights, development, justice, law, and good governance.

Library Groups:

The library focuses more on increasing the number and quality of its stock mainly law and Human Rights, Economics, Politics, sociology, General History, as to build strong and complete groups to meet the needs of the researchers. The management at the library works hard to continuously renew and develop these groups.
The library is divided into ten main sections of the human knowledge based on the universal Dewy decimal classification, which easy to use.

Periodicals section:

The library management provides special periodicals to serve the researchers since they are the fastest to offer studies and different researches. The library includes periodicals specialized in law, political science, and general periodicals, in addition to publications and periodicals issued by the NGOs.

    Services:

  • Internal usage service: Individuals and researchers can use the books only inside the library while they can photocopy sections of books they need for a reasonable price. The library will initiate a lending service as soon as possible.
  • Guidance and feedback service: the librarian participates actively in guiding the visitors by showing them how to benefit from the library's services and carry out the requested researches since the library is systematically computerized (cds/ Isis for windows) which provides variable search keys such as titles, authors, and publishers.
  • The library facilitates photocopying documents for researchers.
  • Services extend to arrange school visits to the library to raise the students' awareness about the Human Rights and law and be acquainted with its sections.
  • Membership: all citizens and residents of Gaza Strips have the right to subscribe to the library; those who are interested can submit the applications and receive membership cards.
  • Working hours: the library opens at the following times:
    Saturday – Wednesday: 8am to 3pm
    Thursday: 8am to 2pam.
