Al Mezan Center for Human Rights congratulates our colleagues at Al-Haq and B’Tselem for being awarded the 2018 Human Rights Prize of the French Republic. The organizations jointly received the prize on 10 December 2018, which marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Al-Haq and B’Tselem are among five laureates, all working to defend human rights under pressure and at risk, conferred France’s prestigious award.

Shawan Jabarin, director of Al-Haq, stressed that the award comes at a time when human rights organizations in Palestine and around the world are being exposed to serious threats and harassment for promoting human rights. He highlighted the plight of the Palestinian people as they strive for their rights and dignity under the constant threat of displacement and repression.

Issam Younis, director of Al Mezan, said that “all of us, as human rights defenders, are proud of the tireless efforts of our colleagues at Al-Haq and B’Tselem to defend the values of equal rights and human dignity, and to uphold universal freedoms”.
