At 4pm on Friday, 14 September 2018, Israeli forces used live ammunition and tear-gas canisters on hundreds of Palestinians joining the Great Return March demonstration in east Abu Safia area in east Jabalia refugee camp in North Gaza district. One 12-year old protester, Shadi Abdulaal, was killed in the Israeli shooting, and 44 more protesters, including nine children, were injured. Doctors at the Indonesia and Al-Awda hospitals stated the casualties ranged in severity from moderate to serious. 16 of these injured protesters were wounded by live fire, and 27 were directly hit by tear gas canisters. Other protesters also suffered from breathing difficulties due to Israeli forces’ heavy use of tear gas, and they received the necessary treatment by field-based medical teams.
